We’ve all tried to cut out a person’s image in Photoshop to replace the background with another. Photoshop does a grand job of it when the subject is on a simple background, but what about when the background is busy? There’s never been a good way to get all the details in the hair perfect – until now. In this tutorial from Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect, we learn how to select even messy hair by creating it! Unmesh uses the Pen Tool to create a solid selection, then shows how to create some special hair brushes to mask the hair. Finally he shows us how to paint some additional hair to make the composite look more realistic.
About PixImperfect and Unmesh Dinda
PiXimperfect is a free online resource for learning Photoshop and Lightroom. Unmesh and his team believe that if you learn the concepts (and not just memorize the steps), you can better translate your imagination visually to the world. Unmesh says not worry about the quality at first – it will improve over time. Just keep creating and your consistency will take care of the rest.
